Spire is looking for two of its enthusiastic members to participate in a project and workshop with our partner organization in Malawi this summer.

In the summer of 2013 Spire´s Campaign and International Committee will join forces on a common project to exchange knowledge about sustainable development and campaign work with our partner organization Network for Youth Development (NfYD) in Malawi. Two members from each organization will be selected to participate in this exciting project.

The main goal for the project is to enhance the capacity of both organizations, with regards to the concepts of sustainable development and campaign work.
The main activity is to organize a two days workshop in Malawi, which will allow youths from the two organizations to discuss, plan and learn from each other.
The workshop will consist of an organizations-focused part, building on Spire’s experience with yearly campaigns, and will also include an exercise for both organizations to share campaign strategies directed at the local, national and international target groups. The Framtidsombudet campaign will be one of the experiences we will bring to the workshop.

Secondly, the workshop will include a more general, civil society focused part that will concentrate on defining sustainable development from the perspective of the participating youths.  This part will go into the rights and institutional aspects of sustainable development, defining the challenges that we as youth face when working with these issues. The participants will also investigate the specific reasons why the members of our organizations choose to engage, why they believe it is important to do so, and how they can work together to ensure a sustainable future that will take into account the rights of the future generations.

The participants from both organizations will together develop a campaign guide/brochure directed at other and future members of Spire and NfYD, building on the experience and inputs from the workshop, as well as from interviews with earlier campaign members. The participants will also write blog posts about their experiences and the Spire participants will hold a Thursday Forum to share the experience and gained knowledge with all the other members, when the project is finished. Last, but not least, another project goal is to gain media coverage on the issues of sustainable development in both countries, combining experiences from both Norway and Malawi.

We are looking for somebody who:
  • Speaks and writes English
  • Is interested in sustainable development, future generations and campaign work
  • Is a member of Spire
  • Is able to travel to Malawi in June/July 2013 (most likely July)
  • Has organizational capacity and communication skills
  • Is engaged, flexible, creative and patient
  • Is willing and prepared to work on the project before, during and after the workshop week. In particular, is willing to write blog post(s) and interviewing people for the campaign guide/brochure, to write the assessment report after the project, and to hold presentation(s) to share the acquired knowledge with the rest of the organization. Estimated time needed is aprox. 6 hours a week from mid- May, June and July (plus of course one week in Malawi), as well as time in August to finalize the assessment report and the campaign guide and hold a presentation for Spire members
  • Wants to be an active member of Spire for at least 6 months after the project, preferably at least one year.
  • Is ready to accept difficult living conditions in Malawi (such as for example periods without electricity or hot water).
We can offer:
  • Experience in organizational work
  • Experience in organizational and political collaboration with an international (partner) organization
  • Experience in using English as a working language
  • Firsthand knowledge about Malawi and essential North-South issues
  • Knowledge about sustainable development, campaign work and the future of our generation
  • Exciting, flexible project work in a stimulating environment, with devoted participants
  • Good references
  • The opportunity to influence and shape the outcome of the project
  • Full coverage of travelling and living costs

Deadline for applications: 5th of May: 21 pm
Send your application to: Ragnhild_lunner@hotmail.com
Include your motivation and comments on the project, as well as the reasons why you are a good candidate.
Including your CV is an adventage, but not decisive.

Comments are closed.
